PHOTO TOUR ICELAND HIGHLANDS

We all know the beautiful images of Iceland. Enchanting, breathtaking and an absolute delight for the landscape photographer. Besides these well-known locations, Iceland has a completely different world to offer, the Highlands. If you like peace, adventure and photography then this is just the place for you. Imagine yourself on a completely different planet while photographing. This adventure is one like you will not experience very often and with landscapes like you can only experience here. Do you dare this adventurous and spectacular journey?

The highlands of Iceland are not accessible to everyone because to reach this beautiful area you are required to have a 4x4 car and you do need to love an adventure. We drive through deep rivers, stand on top of craters of ancient volcanoes and stay in unique locations, also far away from civilization. No doubt you've seen the colorful images of Kerlingarfjöll and Landmannalaugar somewhere before and thought "Yeah yeah, there's no such thing as this much color in a mountain. Nothing could be further from the truth, it really does exist! Besides these two hotspots in the highlands we drive a number of adventurous routes where you can take unique images. Really every 100 meters you see something spectacular and beautiful and if you think it can't get any better, just wait until the next turn, WOW!

WHAT TO EXPECT?

In the Highlands (especially after Landmannalaugar) you encounter few other people. Here you will discover pure peace, quiet and life in nature. Of course we make sure we have a good warm bed for you but don't always expect extreme luxury. There are few accommodations to stay overnight or dine in the Highlands and so there are days in between where we prepare our own meals in the comfort of the mountains instead of extensive luxury menus and jacuzzis. But a true nature lover can appreciate this very thing! Back to basics and full focus on photography. How about the ultimate experience by sleeping one night in mountain huts. In the middle of the Highlands...

ALL INCLUDED
All trips from 2025 are fully inclusive. That means that on most trips we strive to hire drivers, all meals are included, all accommodations (on a shared room basis), access to all parks and lots of culture is added to the trip. Everything is arranged by local entrepreneurs, so all the paperwork is in order and we can do what we do best: show you the most beautiful places! Oh and did you know that we also support a local project with every trip? More about that later!

THE PROGRAM

DAG 1

Today we gather at 12:00 at Keflavik airport to start the trip! Before we drive to the first accommodation, we have a nice surprise to open the trip. We then drive straight through to check in and drop off our bags at the rooms. And then it's time for the first photo location, Hveralir! This a geo-thermal area with all colorful mud pools.

DAG 2

After our breakfast, we are off on an adventure! We drive straight through the highlands to Kerlingarfjöll! We take a nice hike here and believe us when we say that your mouth falls open with wonder here! On the way to the next accommodation we make another stop at Hjalparfoss. In the evening we drive to Sigöldugljúfur, also known as The Valley of Tears for sunset. A valley with dozens of waterfalls!

DAG 3

Today we get up early, actually we can say in the middle of the night. We travel to the Hnausapollur crater. Here you can take beautiful pictures with both your drone and your camera. After this morning we return for breakfast and some hours of rest, all those bumpy roads do keep you awake in the car! Full of energy we head back into the highlands and travel to the crater lake Ljottipollur. We then drive on to the Stútur volcano.

DAG 4

Today we visit one of the highlights of the trip. Perhaps the most famous part of the Highlands. We are going to Landmannalaugar! Here we are going to climb a very beautiful mountain peak, Mt. Blahnúkúr. We take all the time we need for this and there are many photo stops along the way. It is a pretty tough climb that is not long but is steep. Should you not want to do this hike, there is also a lot of beauty to photograph from the ground.

DAG 5

Today we can sleep a little longer and the day begins after breakfast. We are going a little further into the highlands which means we have to drive through a number of rivers. Hold on tight! We stop at many beautiful places today including a place to photograph the glacier rivers from above with a drone. Today we photograph sunset at Rauoibotn, a beautifully colored crater. Should it fit into the schedule we will also visit Axlafoss before sunset!

DAG 6

Time for sunrise at Pakgil. A green gorge with a river in the foreground. On the way to this location we come across an insanely beautiful viewpoint where you overlook a river delta. Then we drive on to another part of the highlands where the mosses are so green it looks like they give off light. We go for a hike here and climb up a bit again at Stórasúla.

DAG 7

Unfortunately, it is the last day in the Highlands. We will drive to the Laki craters and first stop at Fagrifoss. In the afternoon we will drive back towards the airport but will make one more nice stop along the way!

DAG 8

It's all over again! We will bring you back to the airport no later than 12:00. Earlier is always possible if it is more convenient with the flights.

DRONE ENTHUSIAST?

With some 130 craters in Iceland, the highlands are a good place to indulge with your drone as well. The fresh green moss and red edges of the volcanoes create a beautiful color palette through all the black sand/lava. In most places here you can fly with a drone provided you have your EU cerificate. Only busy locations such as Landmannalaugar are excluded here.

SIGMA BENELUX & THIS WAY

Have you been dreaming of a specific lens for a long time but not sure yet if you really need it often enough to buy it? Sigma Benelux offers you the unique opportunity to use the lens you've wanted for so long for free during your trip (if available). Check in advance if Sigma has lenses that fit your camera and let us know. If the lens is available the guides will make sure it goes with you on the trip. What a luxury! An extra lens for a week completely free of charge.
