PHOTO WALK DRUNENSE DUNES

Did you know that the Loonse and Drunense Dunes is one of the largest areas of drifting sand in Western Europe? The Brabant Sahara changes constantly due to the wind, making it different every time. During the hike we encounter both forest and sand dunes. It is a perfect location to completely lose yourself in photographing intimate landscapes but also playing with a wide angle can be great here. If you are not quite there, our guides are there to help you on your way. During this hike we walk a large part on sand dunes so make sure you have good walking shoes. A small note: we walk a small part on a part which is also a dog walking area. After this part of the dunes we enter an oasis of peace and quiet!

DID YOU KNOW

During the last Ice Age, polar winds blew sand from the north to Brabant, where it remained in thick packets. For a long time this sandy plain was covered with primeval forests. Until in the fourteenth century the trees were cut down by people. These used the wood as fuel. The barren plain filled with heathland, on which farmers grazed their cattle. This intensive grazing and sodding depleted the soil. This gave sand free rein. For a long time, the sand was a major problem for the inhabitants. Villages and fields threatened to disappear under it. Trees were planted to stop the encroaching sand. You can still see traces of this today: find the undergrowth of the trees, whose crowns alone still protrude above the sand hills.
